The Beginnings of a Legend

Tony Robbins has been an advisor to 3 US presidents, as well as world leaders, elite athletes and stars in general. He is also the founder and partner of numerous companies in different areas ranging from technology to sports.

Tony’s work has been recognised by major global brands such as Accenture, American Express, Harvard Business and Worth Magazine. Today he is known as “The Master of Millionaires” and is considered one of today’s most influential people.

But who is Tony and how did he get to this point? A question we will answer below: we will talk about the beginnings of a legend and how he gradually forged the foundations of his own success.

Tony Robbins' early years

Anthony J. Robbins was born on 29 February 1960 in North Hollywood, California, the eldest of three brothers. His parents separated when he was still very young, and at the age of 7 he lived alone with his siblings and his mother, who was an alcoholic and drug addict.

Tony grew up in a dysfunctional home. By the time he was a teenager, his mother had already had several marriages, however, her vices and bad habits didn’t become family life at all.

At the age of 17, Tony’s life changed completely when he left home, never to return, after his mother threatened him with a knife in an argument. With nowhere to go and nowhere to turn, he started working as a school caretaker, eliminating any chance of attending university and with no hope of changing his destiny, or so he thought. It was the most difficult time Tony had to live through.

The seminar that changed his life

One day, a good friend introduced Tony to a lecturer who, in just a few hours of seminar time, conveyed knowledge that could take years to obtain. Tony didn’t want to wait to find out if this was true, so without a second thought he attended one of his lectures. After that day, his life would never be the same. The famous person who changed Tony Robbins’ life was none other than Jim Rohn, one of the most influential people of the last century.

At the end of the seminar, Tony approached Jim to learn more about his philosophy of life. It didn’t take long for the speaker to see in Tony’s eyes that spark that would set him apart from other people, so Jim offered him a job. From that moment on, Jim became Tony’s first mentor and his guide in forging his professional path.

Building the foundation for success

Tony’s job was to sell Jim Rohn’s seminars, in exchange for monetary compensation, but more importantly intellectually, by picking up from him all the knowledge and strategies to achieve excellence and success. Applying all that Tony had learned, sales soared, and after a while, and making sure he had a solid knowledge base, Tony took the leap and started doing his own inspirational seminars.

At that point, it was just Tony and his van, and hundreds of miles of road. He travelled around the country doing and offering his lectures, at first totally free of charge as his aim was to make himself known. Tony then went on to charge his audiences, but only if they saw a positive change in their lives by applying the knowledge he was giving. That’s when success knocked on his door, and Tony began to build his personal brand and climb higher and higher.

Tony captured the experiences of his travels in his first book, which people welcomed with open arms, bringing him a lot of recognition. Soon, Tony was everywhere: audio tapes, conferences, television and much more, which gave him a global reach. From there, as they say, the rest is history.

Today Tony Robbins continues to sow the seeds of motivation in people as a speaker and writer of self-help and personal development books.

He partnered with Cloé Madanes, with whom he founded the Robbins-Madanes Centre For Strategic Intervention, a school that trains the coaches of tomorrow; men and women who will be able to change the world as we know it by sharing personal development techniques.
